Beermens obliterate Phoenix to avoid four-game slump
The San Miguel Beermen avoided a rare four-game losing streak by defeating Phoenix Fuel Masters 117-100, in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup, on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Beermen broke away in the second half by unleashing a 21-7 run, and never looked back despite a late scuffle between Kevin Murphy and Calvin Abueva with 4:11 minutes left on the clock.
However, Murphy would be slapped with a flagrant foul one.
“The players had a sense of urgency. We’re getting into a better position to make the playoffs. We hope we sustain this,” said San Miguel head coach Leo Austria.
Christian Standhardinger paced Beermen with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Marcio Lassiter listed 26 points (5-of-11 shooting) and eight assists, while Murphy also added 26.
San Miguel halted their three-game losing streak, as they improved their standings at 3-4 win-loss slate to keep their playoffs hope alive.
For the Fuel Masters, Eugene Phelps registered 37 points and 26 rebounds, while RJ Jazul led the locals with 16 markers.
Phoenix dropped their standings at 6-3.
