Blatche gets fit for battle with Australia, Japan

Gilas Pilipinas will be facing their biggest challenge in the FIBA World Qualifers as they go to Melbourne to take on the Australian national team.

In preparation for the games this February, Andray Blatche came to practice in better shape and it has been something he was working on prior to arriving back in Manila.

“They should expect us to be tough. I’m healthy and I’m in a better condition, I can help the team a lot more now,” Blatche said.

Aside from Australia, the Japanese national team that will be arriving in the Philippines are beefed up with better players as compared to the roster that they faced in November last year. This time around, Japan will be joined by former Phoenix Suns guard Yuta Tabuse.

“I see they added the one Japan guy that played for the Suns. We got to come out and play our game. It should be fun. I heard that their players are guaranteeing a win, that is just trash talk. As long as we come out and we came with a plan, we will be fine.”

Gilas will leave for Melbourne on February 19 to play Australia on the 22 nd . They will return to Manila and face Japan on February 25 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
