The De La Salle University Lady Spikers showcased their dominance over the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Lady Altas, securing a convincing 25-11, 25-17, and 25-12 victory to kick off the 2023 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Despite the absence of veteran players, the team, led by Rookie of the Year and MVP Angel Canino, secured a lopsided win over the Lady Altas, propelling them to a 1-0 record in Pool A.
UAAP’s Best Middle Blocker, Thea Gagate, delivered an impressive performance with 12 points, consisting of eight hits and four blocks. Amie Provido also showcased a similar output for the reigning UAAP women’s volleyball champions.
Alleiah Malaluan contributed 11 points, while Shevana Laput added 10 points for La Salle, the reigning champions of last year’s Collegiate Pre-Season Championship of Shakey’s.
“Nag-stick kami kung ano ‘yung game plan namin. We executed pero sa totoo lang, marami pa kaming lapses,” said Lady Spikers interim coach Noel Orcullo.
“Hopefully, tuloy-tuloy kasi lahat dito sa SSL, nag-handa so kailangan i-respeto namin lahat ng kalaban,” added the long-time deputy of Ramil de Jesus.
NCAA MVP Mary Rhose Dapol stood out as the only bright spot for the Lady Altas, scoring eight points.
