50-50 kontra Kazakhstan! Gilas awaits medical update on Bolick, Nocum injuries

GILAS Pilipinas will have to wait until Saturday for a clearer picture of the injuries suffered by Robert Bolick and Adrian Nocum after the Philippines opened its Asian Games campaign with an 89-85 loss to Bahrain.

Head coach Tim Cone said the team will know more about the condition of the two guards after they undergo treatment following Friday’s game.

“We’ll know more tomorrow after we see the results of the treatment,” Cone said.

Bolick sustained his knee injury during warmups after landing awkwardly and still tried to play despite the setback. Nocum was later forced out of the game after suffering an injury during the contest.

Their availability now becomes a major concern for Gilas as the team prepares for its next Group C assignment against Kazakhstan on September 12.

The Philippines is already dealing with a depleted roster heading into the Asian Games, with naturalized player Justin Brownlee unavailable as he continues recovering from injuries in the United States.

Despite the setbacks, Calvin Oftana delivered a career-best 31-point performance in his Asian Games debut to keep Gilas within striking distance of Bahrain.

The Philippines will now hope that Bolick and Nocum can recover quickly as Gilas tries to bounce back from its opening-day defeat and keep its campaign on track. (Jesus Nathaniel Valdez)
