Jack Cruz-Dumont taken by Blackwater in 3rd round of PBA Draft

Jack Cruz-Dumont has landed with the Blackwater Bossing in the third round of the PBA Season 50 Rookie Draft on Sunday night at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.

Initially projected as a potential first-rounder, the Filipino-Canadian guard out of the University of the East Red Warriors slid all the way to the third round before being called by Blackwater.

“My whole life growing up I was here in the Philippines, where how crazy the basketball world is. So it’s always a dream of mine to play professionally here,” the 24-year-old Cruz-Dumont said in a televised interview.

“I wanted to show (Blackwater) that I play hard, that I can do different things, use my size, my shooting. And I think it’s a good experience, and it’s cool to be in the gym with all of the draftees,” he added.

Also selected in the third round were Aurin Catacutan (Terrafirma), Harvey Pagsanjan (Phoenix), Mark Sangco (NorthPort), John Capulong (NLEX), Vince Gomez (Magnolia), Ethan Galang (Meralco), Winston Ynot (Converge), Royce Mantua (San Miguel), Cole Micek (Rain or Shine), and Sean Quitevis (TNT Tropang Giga).

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, meanwhile, opted to pass in the round after earlier drafting Sonny Estil, Mario Barasi Jr., and John Abis.
