After leading for almost the entirety of the game, the Phoenix Fuel Masters blew a 12-point lead in the third quarter and allowed the San Miguel Beermen to get out of the Smart-Araneta Coliseum with commanding 2-0 advantage in their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals series.
To make things even worse, Calvin Abueva was left with a painful bruise on his face after figuring in a physical battle for the loose ball against SMB’s 6’9 bruiser Christian Standhardinger in the second period.
The Fil-German forward was slapped with a disqualifying foul after replays showed he also inadvertently hit Abueva in the groin area during the scuffle.
Abueva shared a close-up image of the damage he took in an Instagram post.
The two, together with Doug Kramer, were slapped with fines due to their Game 2 antics.
Abueva finished with an all-around effort of 16 points to go along with 10 boards, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. However, he also contributed seven of the Fuel Masters’ 22 turnovers and missed all three of his three-point attempts.
