Adamson continue perfect slate behind Ahanmisi, Magbuhos

Jerrick Ahanmisi once again led the Adamson University Soaring Falcons to defeat the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 77-71, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City Saturday.

In the fourth quarter, the Growling Tigers were behind by five points, 69-74, before Jerom Lastimosa sinked his basket to extend their lead to seven, 76-69, in the last 49 seconds.

UST then again cut the lead to five, 71-76, behind Marvin Lee’s freethrows but ran out of time to give the Soaring Falcons its third win, 77-71.

“My bench players proved that they are capable of stepping up,” said Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren. “This is one game that we were able to prove ourselves that we just play as a team.”

The San Marcelino-based squad had 40 bench points compared to UST’s only 29.

Ahanmisi erupted for 20 points and Vince Magbuhos added 15 markers. CJ Cansino led UST in a losing effort with 18 points and six boards.

Adamson’s next match will be against the University of the Philippines on Wednesday, September 26, at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
