Adamson University Lady Falcons’ head coach, JP Yude, has appealed to passionate fans of the De La Salle University Lady Spikers to show respect for the referee’s decisions following their hard-fought 22-25, 25-17, 17-25, 27-25, and 16-14 triumph in Game 1 of the Shakey’s Super League finals.
As per the newly appointed mentor of the Lady Falcons, it’s essential to show respect to the referees since they possess a clearer perspective of the on-court proceedings.
“Hindi tayo puwede makipagtalo sa mga referees because it happened right in front of him, so siya ang nakakakita,” Yude said in an interview after the match on Wednesday night.
“We must respect what the referee’s call because it happened in front of him,” he added. “We are grateful, a bit, because it is in our favor.”
Yude’s statement came in response to certain Lady Spikers fans in the venue who seemed to mock the Lady Falcons following a contentious call that favored their team.
The disputed call under debate was the block touch call involving Lady Spikers’ Shevana Laput during Lady Falcons’ Red Bascon’s attack, at a critical juncture with the score tied at 14-all in the fifth set.
In a post-game interview, Laput refuted having touched the ball, yet she has chosen to focus on the upcoming match. The Lady Spikers aim to level the best-of-three title series in the next game.
