ALAS Pilipinas Women wrapped up their 2026 Asian Games campaign on a winning note, sweeping Hong Kong, China, 25-21, 25-9, 30-28, on Tuesday at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium in Nagoya, Japan.
The Philippines controlled the opening two sets before surviving a tight third-set battle to secure ninth place in the women’s volleyball competition.
Mhicaela Belen led the Alas Women with 18 points, while Angel Canino added 17 and Alyssa Solomon contributed 11.
The Alas Women set the tone early, building enough of a cushion in the opening set to withstand Hong Kong’s attempts to rally and take a 1-0 lead.
The second set was more one-sided as the Philippines imposed its tempo and quickly opened a commanding advantage to move within a set of victory.
Hong Kong responded strongly in the third, turning the final frame into a prolonged battle. The Alas Women eventually held their nerve in the closing exchanges to finish the match, 30-28.
The victory completed the Philippines’ classification-round campaign and gave the team a ninth-place finish.
Hong Kong was paced by Lam Shum with 13 points, followed by Wing Lam Chim with 12 and Wing Ni Yim with 11. (Adrian Co)
