Alaska Stuns Magnolia For Win No. 1 in PBA Philippine Cup
Alaska Aces finally barged into the win column of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup following an 87-81 triumph over Magnolia Hotshots on Saturday night at the AUF Sports Arena & Cultural Center in Pampanga.
Jeron Teng top-scored with 19 points, Jvee Casio chipped in 17 markers, while Abu Tratter and Michael Digregorio submitted 10 markers apiece as the Aces improved to 1-2 slate.
Trailing 39-28 midway in the second period, the Aces came up with a huge rally behind Teng, Casio and Digregorio to slice the deficit to 43-45 at the half on a triple by Abel Galliguez.
Magnolia pulled away at 51-43 at the start of the third on back-to-back triples by Paul Lee but Alaska leaned on consecutive hits from Teng and Casio to trim the deficit to 62-64.
The Aces finally notched the lead early in the fourth at 72-69 baskets from Teng and Tratter. The Hotshots tried to catch up several times but clutch hits from Digregorio and Teng iced the win for Alaska.
Andy Mark Barroca finished the match with 16 points, Lee added 14 markers, while Chris Banchero, Jiovani Jalalon and Aris Dionisio submitted 13, 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the 1-2 Hotshots.
