Alex Cabagnot once trained NBA rookie Onyeka Okongwu
Did you know that NBA rookie Onyeka Okongwu once trained with Filipino coaches and players back when he was eight years old?
And that Filipino coach happened to be San Miguel guard Alex Cabagnot.
According to SPIN Life, Cabagnot and his cousin Cris Gopez had a basketball recreation league called “Edge Basketball International” where they trained Okongwu and other promising Filipino hoopers in California.
“My brother and partner coach chris has been amazing w/ the youth. Count your blessings. God is good all the time. 🙏🏻,” Cabagnot tweeted upon featuring the article.

Okongwu recently signed with the Atlanta Hawks after he was picked 6th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, and both Gopez and Cabagnot couldn’t be happier for “Big O”.
