Alex Eala enjoys familiar surroundings ahead of Singapore Open round of 16 match

ALEXANDRA Eala said competing in Singapore has given her a sense of familiarity as she prepares for her round of 16 match at the Singapore Tennis Open.

The Filipina is among the players competing in the Southeast Asian region’s lone WTA 500 event, a tournament that has also drawn support from fans across neighboring countries.

Eala said her long association with Singapore has made the current stop particularly comfortable.

“I do feel a ton of support, and I feel so at home, you know, being in Southeast Asia, and being at such a familiar location,” Eala said in an interview with the WTA.

She added that Singapore has been part of her tennis journey since her younger years.

“I’ve been competing here for such a long time, ever since I was really young, so it’s nice to be back as a professional.”

Away from competition, Eala also encouraged visitors to sample Singapore’s food and said she would like to visit Universal Studios if her schedule allows.

Her immediate focus, however, is on her next match against Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova in the round of 16 on Thursday. (Adrian Co)
