ALEXANDRA Eala’s impressive run at the US Open has reached another milestone after the Filipina tennis star was featured prominently on the front page of The New York Times.
Eala appeared in a large photograph on the newspaper’s September 3, 2026, print edition, showing her signing tennis balls for fans during the US Open.
The front page also carried a feature titled “In Little Manila, This U.S. Open Redefines Love,” highlighting the strong support Eala has received from the Filipino community in New York.
The development was shared by sports broadcaster TJ Manotoc, who posted a photo of the newspaper’s front page on X.
“Alex Eala makes it to the front page of today’s @nytimes print edition. Just wow,” Manotoc wrote.

The New York Times feature comes as Eala continues to make headlines with her performance at Flushing Meadows.
The No. 17 seed advanced to the third round of the US Open after dispatching Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova, 6-1, 6-4, at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Eala opened her campaign with another straight-sets victory, defeating American qualifier Mary Stoiana, 6-1, 6-2.
The 21-year-old Filipina entered the tournament following a breakthrough season highlighted by her first WTA title and a rise into the world’s top 20.
Eala is now seeking to extend her deepest US Open run as she continues her campaign in New York. (Adrian Co)
