Alexandra Eala and Shaira Rivera were eliminated from the 2026 Asian Games women’s doubles tournament after falling to China’s Jiang Xinyu and Yang Zhaoxuan, 5-7, 2-6, on Wednesday at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya, Japan.
The Philippine tandem battled through a competitive opening set but could not sustain its challenge as the Chinese pair pulled away to take control of the match.
Jiang and Yang broke through in the latter stages of the first set before carrying their momentum into the second, where they established an early lead and completed the straight-set victory in one hour and 34 minutes.
The Chinese pair held a statistical advantage in the match, winning 79 total points to the Philippines’ 60. Jiang and Yang also converted seven of 11 break-point opportunities, while Eala and Rivera went 3-of-4.
Eala and Rivera advanced to the second round after defeating Hong Kong’s Lai Ching Laam and Kallista Liu, 6-1, 6-3, in the opening round.
The loss ends their women’s doubles campaign, leaving Eala to continue her Asian Games run in the singles competition. (Adrian Co)
