ALEXANDRA Eala’s campaign at the Singapore Tennis Open came to an abrupt end in the round of 16 after Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory on Thursday at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
Eala, the No. 3 seed, took the opening set but could not close out the match as Prozorova fought back to force a deciding set.
The Filipina struggled with her serve throughout the three-set contest, committing seven double faults and winning just 52 percent of points behind her first serve. She converted six of 17 break-point opportunities.
Prozorova, ranked No. 180 in the world, held the edge in key serving statistics, recording four aces and converting seven of 12 break points.
Eala still finished with more receiving points won, 59-54, but Prozorova accumulated more total points, 118-113, and won 17 games to Eala’s 14.
The defeat ended Eala’s first tournament since her US Open campaign, where she reached the round of 16.
The Singapore Open was also her final WTA event before joining the Philippine delegation for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. (Adrian Co)
