Alexandria Luz Enriquez added another silver medal to the Philippines’ haul after finishing runner-up in the women’s -63kgs jiu-jitsu competition on Saturday at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall in Japan.
Enriquez came within reach of securing the country’s fifth gold medal but was denied by Thailand’s Orapa Senathan, who won their championship bout on advantage.
The result gave Enriquez the Philippines’ second jiu-jitsu medal of the Asian Games. Jenna Kaila Napolis earlier claimed bronze in the women’s -52kgs division on Friday.
Another Filipino entry, Andrea Lois Lao, narrowly missed the podium after losing to Mongolia’s Narankhiskig Baasanjargal in the bronze medal match.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Blu Girls also ended their campaign without a medal after suffering a 12-2 defeat to Chinese Taipei in the softball bronze medal game at Anjo Softball Ground.
In women’s padel, Danna Abad and Joshea Malazarte were shut out by Indonesia’s Novela Putria and Beatrice Gumulya, 6-0, 6-0, in the battle for bronze.
The country’s taekwondo campaign also concluded with Baby Jessica Canabal bowing to Jordan’s Fadia Khirfan, 2-0, in the women’s -57kgs quarterfinals.
In golf, Rianne Malixi finished sixth in the women’s individual stroke play, with Bianca Pagdanganan placing 15th. Justin De Los Santos ended up 15th in the men’s event, while Miguel Tabuena finished 26th.
The Philippines closed its Asian Games campaign with four gold medals, nine silver and 16 bronze for a total of 29 medals.
The haul surpassed the country’s 2022 Asian Games tally of four gold, two silver and 12 bronze medals. (Adrian Co)
