Arvin Tolentino’s go-ahead triple carries FEU to last Final Four slot
FEU continues to ride on their momentum.
Arvin Tolentino’s three-pointer allowed the Tamaraws to secure the fourth-seed against La Salle Green Archers, 71-70, in the do-or-die matchup of the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, November 21.
La Salle leaned on the heroics of Aljun Melecio to force a two possessions lead, but Kenneth Tuffin would cut the deficit by two after burying a step back long-two pointer, 70-68.
In FEU’s final possession, Jasper Parker found an open Tolentino to bury a game-winning triple to walk away to knockout La Salle for good.
After suffering a four-game losing skid entering the second round, FEU turned its season around and had a crucial three-game winning streak to book another Final Four trip for the sixth straight seasons.
“I love how this team battled through adversity all throughout the year,” said FEU head coach Olsen Racela.
“They never gave up even nung may four-game losing streak kami. It’s just fitting that we made the Final Four this way.”
Tolentino led FEU with 15 points and five rebounds, while Barkley Eboña had a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds.
Kenneth Tuffin was good with 11 points, while Richard Escoto collected 10 markers and eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, La Salle costed their last three games which removed them out of the playoff contention.
Graduating Leonard Santillan was the lone double-digit scorer for the Archers with 20 points and six rebounds.
