Asi wants to be ‘Like Vince’
Asi Taulava hopes to be like Vince Carter, not in terms of his athleticism but because of his longevity.
The recently retired Carter was the only NBA player to play for four different decades, and the 47-year old Taulava hopes to achieve that astonishing feat too.
The current NLEX veteran entered the league as a direct hire in 1999, and he would’ve been the first PBA cager to suit up for four different decades as well if it wasn’t for the game stoppage in March due to COVID-19.
“That’s something that’s never been on my mind. I never thought about it. But I was like ‘this is a great goal to work for,'” said Taulava in 2OT podcast.
At the end of the day, it is all up to NLEX coach Yeng Guiao if Taulava’s services will be much-needed, since he is still capable of contributing to a championship tea.
It’s whatever Coach Yeng wants. At the end of the day it’s his team. He makes the decision. It’s what the man needs with his team. I’ve enjoyed the ride. Whatever Coach Yeng needs, I’m there,” he said.
“You don’t wanna sit around and get in there and play like one minute or two minutes. I wanna go out and give it everything I got. And if I can help the young guys win a championship, that’s the best way to end your career.”
