There will be a new champion in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge as last year’s titlist, the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, opted not to join.
The Blue Eagles might have skipped their title defense as they are still in transition with new head coach Sergio Veloso, who replaced last season’s mentor Oliver Almadro.
Only two UAAP-based squads, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws and the rebuilding University of the East Lady Warriors, have joined the eight-team field.
Completing the cast are defending NCAA champion College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers, Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates, Mapua University Lady Cardinals, University of Perpetual Help DALTA Lady Altas, San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags, and reigning NAASCU champion Enderun Colleges Lady Titans.
The top four teams after the single-round eliminations will advance to the best-of-three semifinals, with the first and second-seeded teams squaring off with the fourth and third-ranked teams, respectively.
The finals will also be a best-of-three series, while the battle for the bronze is a one-game affair.
