Ateneo cruises UE for sixth straight win
The onslaught continues for the Ateneo Blue Eagles, beating the UE Red Warriors at 85-68, in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena, on Wednesday, September 25.
The Katipunan-based university was cold throughout the first half, allowing UE to gain a 35-34 advantage.
However, the defending champs waxed hot in the second half by exploding a 23-5 surge, which became a 57-40 lead.
Adrian Wong’s triple in the late third canto gave the Blue Eagles their biggest lead of the ball game, 69-47, and never looked back.
“I was pretty happy with the third quarter. Ultimately, we got the win,” said Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin.
“They took notes watching us play. They used some counters on some of our defensive plays, particulary in the first half and I was a little bit annoyed with the team. We shouldn’t need timeouts and we shouldn’t need halftime to fix those things.”
Ange Kouane was the man for the Blue Eagles with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Thirdy Ravena registered 15 markers, four boards, and five assists, while Wong listed all of his 11 points from the third period.
Ateneo remains unbeaten in all of their six games, while UE suffered back-to-back defeats that dropped them down at 1-5.
