Ayo downplays 2-0 edge over UP

Final Four is a different beast in UAAP.

No other coaches knows that fact other than UST head coach Aldin Ayo.

Facing a daunting task of beating the twice-to-beat UP in the stepladder round, the two-time titlist mentor knows how to not let the pressure get the best of the Tigers.

“We’re going to take it one game at a time. Talagang isa lang yan eh. Hindi mo dapat iisipin yung pangalawa, hindi mo dapat iisipin yung susunod, kung ano nasa harapan mo yun yung dapat isipin mo eh,” he said.

A bit of a momentum is on the UST side due to the fact that they outlasted UP twice in the elimination round — first was a lopsided 85-69 win on September 7 and an 84-78 escape on October 16.

However, the second year mentor downplayed those victories given that UP never backs down in the clutch period.

“Now, some of you will say that we are 2-0 against UP, but they are a different team right now. And yung mga nangyari dun sa elimination, it won’t matter anymore because they’re a different team and this is the Final Four,” Ayo explained.

“Lahat gagawin dito. Kung ano man dapat nilang gawin of course they’re going to do that.”

The Tigers will try to force a do-or-die game against UP on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
