The Philippine Azkals will miss one of its prolific strikers and goal scoring machine after Javier Patiño went down with an injury while playing for Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League.

In his Instagram post, Patiño confirmed that he will be out of commission due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

“I just want to let you know that after a second medical test run here in Spain to find out the degree of my injury…Indeed i have the cruciate ligament broken,” Patiño revealed.

💪🏾 ⚽ 🇬🇧Hello everyone, I just want to let you know that after a second medical test run here in Spain to find out the degree of my injury …. Due to the injury, Patiño will miss the Azkals’ home game set on September 5 against Yemen at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City. Worse the Filipino-Spaniard footballer might even miss the rest of the qualifying tournament.

“It is the first time that I have an injury that makes me stop for a long period of time, and stops me from doing what I like most which is playing football and scoring goals,” he added.

Patiño’s absence will be surely felt by the Azkals as they seek to enter the tournament proper of the Asian Cup for the first time.

Patiño was instrumental in the Azkals’ crucial away win against Tajikistan last June 13. The striker scored a brace in Dunshabe as the Azkals escaped with pulsating 4-3 win for their second straight triumph in the 2019 Asian qualifiers.
