By Kevin Estrada

The Philippines continues to prepare for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games as they travel to Shah Alam, Malaysia in the qualifiers of the 2020 AFC U23 Championships.

Hosted by Thailand next year, the said tournament serves as the continent’s qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics in which Japan also got in as the host of the quadrennial meet.

With the same core from their trip to Cambodia where they finished bottom of their group in the AFF tilt, Bob Salvacion’s side saw five changes into their side that will journey in Selangor, four of which came from NCAA champions San Beda.

Ateneo’s Jarvey Gayoso was the odd man in for the U23 Azkals as he was joined by Jessie Semblante, Wally Magtoto, Jerome Marzan and Mariano Suba, with the reigning NCAA MVP completing the Red Lion triumvirate of shot-stoppers as he stepped in for AJ Arcilla who have to beg off as he focuses on tending the nets for the Blue Eagles

The pro quartet of Kaya’s Dean Ebarle, Ceres’ Dylan De Bruycker, Eastern’s Jordan Jarvis and Sunderland RCA’s Troy Limbo are still intact to take on the hosts and reigning SEA Games silver medalists to open their campaign in Group J which will kick-off at 8:45PM.

After taking on Harimau Muda, they will face China and Laos on the 24th and the 26th with identical kick-offs at 4:30 PM.
