Balik España na! Marc Gasol officially waived by Memphis Grizzlies
Marc Gasol may have ended his NBA career with the team that he first played for.
The three-time All Star center has been waived by the Memphis Grizzlies, five days after being traded along with a 2024 second-round pick and cash considerations from the Los Angeles Lakers for the draft rights to Chinese 7-foot center Wang Zhelin.
According to ESPN, Gasol will return to his hometown Spain and play for Girona, the ballclub which he owns.
Gasol, 36, has been one of Grizzlies’ face behind the “Grit N’ Grind” era.
He won Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, and he is currently the franchise’s all-time leader in rebounds (5,942) and blocks (1,135).
Gasol won his first championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 after being shipped in the trade deadline.
Gasol played for the Lakers last season where he averaged only 5.0 points, 4.1 rebounds before being demoted for Andre Drummond.
