BaliPure, Pocari near Finals

Top seed BaliPure and No. 2 Pocari Sweat needed extra sweat to repulse Creamline and Power Smashers, respectively, in Game One of the best-of-three semis of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

The Water Defenders attacked the Cool Smashers’ sloppy reception late in the match and scored a 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-21 win.

While the Lady Warriors with American import Michelle Strizak leading the attack with 20 points, survived the Power Smashers, 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12

With the win, BaliPure and Pocari Sweat just need to win on Tuesday to arrange a championship match.

Strizak got support from Myla Pablo who submitted 16 points, while Jeannette Panaga and Desiree Dadang scored 14 and 13 for Pocari.

BaliPure rallied from one set down and dominated the last two sets on efficient hitting and solid blocking.
Import Jennifer Keddy topscored for Water Defenders with 24 hits, including 13 attack points and five kill blocks.
They also successful in slowing down Allyssa Valdez, who managed to collect just 12 hits after norming 20s in the eliminationals and quarters.

Thai Kuttika Kaewpin led the Cool Smashers with 16 points.

In the men’s side, Army stunned top seed Air Force, 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, to move in the threshold of the men’s finals.

While Sta. Elena pulled off a four-set reversal over No. 2 Cignal HD, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22, 30-28, in the other men’s semis match. (Emile Rios)
