Basketball at Volleyball lang? Rebo Saguisag plans to hold ‘UAAP Bubble’ with two main sports
The UAAP has considered pto hold competitions inside the bubble environment as early as April 2021, should the government finally allows face-to-face classes, as well as Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Inter-Task approving the resumption of collegiate trainings.
“Kung ma-approve ang training, hopefully we start our trainings by January after the Christmas break,” said UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag on Radyo5’s ‘Power and Play with Noli Eala’.
“The teams will need two to three months to prepare and after Easter Sunday on April 4, hopefully if all goes well, we’re looking at starting the season by April in a bubble scenario.”
However, only limited sports will be held inside the said “UAAP Bubble” with the likes of “flagship events” that includes men’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
This is to accomodate the UAAP’s five-and-a-half year deal with Cignal TV as its new broadcast partner.
“We’re all about equality in sports, kaya lang syempre with our partners, we also have to consider yung commercial side. Unfortunately, when you talk about that, talagang yung flagship events ang napag-uusapan. Yan ang mga tinitimbang namin,” he said.
Still, nothing is final yet with the proposed plans for the resumption of Season 83 until the pandemic situation continues to improve.
“Hindi pa sinasabing tuloy, pero yan ang pinagaaralan,” he said.
