Ben Simmons diagnosed with nerve impingement in his back

Ben Simmons is likely done for the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a nerve impingement in his back.

“He’s really under the care of consulting specialists to see what the next step is going to be going forward,” said Brooklyn Nets coach Jacque Vaughn.

“There’s some things I can control and some things I can’t. What I can’t control is the impingement. What I can control is getting this group ready to play. And then in all honesty, the realism that he’s not going to join us for the rest of the year, in all honesty,” Vaughn added.

Simmons last played on February 15. The former number one pick is struggling this season with career low averages of 6.9 points, 6.3 points, and 6.1 assists.

The Nets have gone through major makeovers this season. They fired former coach Steve Nash early in the season and experienced significant improvement under the leadership of Vaughn.

Superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were also traded in the mid-season, but the Nets are still in the sixth spot in the East with eight games remaining in their regular-season schedule. (MJD)
