Binabarat? Blackwater low balling Raymar Jose as other Top 5 picks get max
Blackwater might have made Raymar Jose one of the surprise picks in the 2017 PBA draft, but it has given little respect to the hardworking FEU Tamaraw and national team with its low ball offer.
All Top 5 picks in the 2017 PBA draft – No. 1 pick Christian Standhardinger of San Miguel, No. 2 pick Kiefer Ravena of NLEX, No. 4 pick Jason Perkins of Phoenix, and No. 5 pic Jeron Teng of Alasaka – have been given a max contract of P8.55 million for three years except for Jose.
Gerry Ramos of Spin.PH reported that Blackwater has only offered a one-year max contract to Jose.
The Inquirer’s Musong Castillo reported that Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy wanted to gauge whether Jose would pan out in his rookie year in the PBA along with the team’s big men Mac Belo, JP Erram, Dave Marcelo, and Chris Javier before giving him a longer contract.
“I would like to see first what he can give us. There are always additional incentives and we always give premium to players who deliver,” said Sy.
If Blackwater wasn’t sure of Jose’s transition to the PBA, why did it pick him at No. 3 when Teng or Perkins were still on the board?
