Blackwater Prevails Over NLEX in PBA Philippine Cup


Blackwater Elite leaned on another strong third quarter push as they walloped the NLEX Road Warriors, 98-88, in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday night at the AUF Sports Arena & Cultural Center in Pampanga.

Rommel Nino Canaleta and Celedonio Trollano tallied 18 points apiece, Shej Roi Sumang added 13 markers, while Eduardo Daquioag finished with 10 as the Elite surged to a 2-1 win-loss slate.

Both teams traded runs in the first two quarters with the Elite surging to a 40-35 lead early in the second period but was quickly erased by the Road Warriors to force a 46-all deadlock at the half.

Blackwater went on a scoring barrage in the third period behind Daquioag and Sumang for a 74-60 lead. It grew further to 81-61 late in the quarter with conversions from Canaleta.

Consecutive three-pointers from Canaleta, Trollano and Frank Golla gave the Elite its largest lead at 93-69. The Road Warriors came up with a late rally but could only come to as close as nine points.

Mike Ayonayon finished with career-high 20 points, Kiefer Ravena added 17 markers, eight rebounds and seven assists, while Kevin Alas and Raul Soyud had 13 each as the Road Warriors slumped to 0-3.
