Blackwater stuns Ginebra in OT
Blackwater Elite scored a huge win against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in overtime, 124-118, in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
Down by 103-107 in the deciding quarter, JP Erram and Mike Digregorio scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game with less than a minute remaining.
Scottie Thompson would sink a go-ahead three-pointer only to be answered by Digregorio to send the game into overtime.
In the extended period, Justin Brownlee first delivered three points but Paul Zamar, Henry Walker, and Mac Belo buried three straight triples, 119-113.
Ginebra cut the lead by as much as three, but Zamar would let Ginebra’s defense pay by leaving him open at the corner, 122-116. Brownlee tried to keep his team afloat through his dunk but JP Erram would seal the deal by scoring inside the basket.
Walker posted 39 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists while Zamar had a defining night for Blackwater, scoring a career-high 17 points and seven rebounds.
Nard Pinto tallied 15 points and six assists while Belo wound up 14 markers for Blackwater.
Blackwater had their best franchise start in history, maintaining a perfect 4-0 record. Meanwhile, the defending champions Ginebra was handed their first loss of the conference at 2-1, after playing without Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Jervy Cruz, and Sol Mercado.
Brownlee finished with 41 points for the Kings. LA Tenorio added 17 points while Aljon Mariano provided 16.
