Blatche at ease with Guiao’s ‘simple’ system
By Miles Morales
Naturalized Filipino Andray Blatche admitted being at ease with coach Yeng Guiao’s “very simple” system which he said allows Gilas Pilipinas players to simply play off their instincts.
“The thing about the system that I like the most is playing off instinct. It puts you in positions where you have to make a choice, so it’s not like the plays are super complicated,” Blatche said.
“The plays are very simple, and playing off instinct, and playing off chemistry with your teammates,” he added.
The 6’10 former NBA player will get his chance to make up for lost time with the Philippines as the nationa team prepare for must-win games in the sixth and final window of the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.
Gilas will first meet Qatar in Doha on Feb. 21 before flying for Astana to take on Kazakhstan on Feb. 24.
The challenge for Gilas now is to familiarize Blatche with the system and with the other players as he only has 10 days to spend in the country before going back to China to rejoin his Chinese Basketball Association club Tianjin Gold Tigers.
