Blue Eagles overwhelm FEU behind Kouame’s monster game
Ateneo Blue Eagles pounded the FEU Tamaraws, 82-62, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, October 20.
Ateneo were missing the services of Thirdy Ravena (one game suspension), and Mike and Matt Nieto (dengue), but they were still able to exact revenge against the Tamaraws from their first-round loss.
Angelo Kouame capitalized on FEU’s lack of inside presence after Prinze Orizu went down with an injury in the first period.
Ateneo would score 18 points in the second canto, while also limiting FEU to just six.
Kouame posted 33 points on 15-of-17 shooting, while also owning 27 rebounds.
“We’re very happy with the win and also we’re very happy with Ange’s performance. We just had to read the situation and take advantage of the opportunities. FEU was locking down on our shooters that left Ange open for offensive rebounds,” said Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arrespacochaga.
Anton Asistio stepped up for the Blue Eagles well by contributing 15 points.
Ateneo hiked their win-loss card at 7-2, as they tied with Adamson at the top of the standings.
Not only dud FEU suffered their back-to-back losses, but they also dropped their record to 5-4.
Hubert Cani and Richard Escoto scored 13 apiece for the FEU.
