Brazil vented its ire on the Netherlands with an easy 25-21, 25-15, and 25-20 sweep in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) men’s tournament on Thursday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Brazilians bounced back from their loss to Italy last Tuesday by dispatching the Netherlands in only 72 minutes to hike their win-loss record to 7-3, good for third place behind unbeaten Japan (9-0) and the United States (8-1).
Henrique Honorato and Lucas Saatkamp top-scored for Brazil with 10 points each, while Ricardo Lucarelli Souza and Alan Souza had nine apiece.
Bruno Mossa Rezende, considered one of the best male setters in the world, displayed anew his ball distribution prowess with 10 excellent sets and one point for the No. 3 ranked Brazil.
“We tried to limit their strong attackers. They have the best (opposite) spiker in the world in Nimir, and we made a great job blocking him. That was the main thing in this win,” said Rezende.
Nimir Abdel-Aziz struggled with just eight points, while Wouter Ter Maat contributed 10 markers as the Netherlands dropped to a 5-5 record.
