Brother of DLSU varsity who falls to death from campus building appeals for privacy

De La Salle University campus building where a student-athlete tragically fell, prompting an appeal for privacy from the family.

THE brother of the De La Salle University student-athlete who died Thursday appealed to the public to stop spreading speculations and asking the family to recount what happened as authorities and the university continue to deal with the tragedy.

In a statement posted on social media, the brother said the family was already coordinating with the university and asked the public to allow the proper process to take place.

“We ask everyone to please refrain from spreading speculations and rumors, as we are already coordinating closely with DLSU regarding the situation,” he said.

He also thanked those who had reached out to the family for their concern and support while asking them to respect the privacy of everyone involved.

“We read all your messages and sincerely appreciate your concern, support, and understanding. During these trying times, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of those involved and allow the proper process to take its course,” he added.

The brother specifically appealed to the public to give their parents space and refrain from asking them about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“I am also fervently asking everyone, please, please respect my Mama and Papa and stop asking them what happened,” he said.

“What happened is already too much for us to carry. Every time we are asked to explain or recount what happened, we are made to relive moments that are incredibly painful for our family. Thank you!”

The 18-year-old DLSU student-athlete died Thursday after falling from the 10th floor of the Enrique M. Razon Sports Complex at the university’s Vito Cruz campus in Manila.

According to a Manila Police District report, authorities responded after receiving information from a concerned citizen about a person at the building’s 10th-floor ledge. The student-athlete was later declared dead at the scene despite the response of the university’s duty doctor.

DLSU confirmed the incident and said it had contacted the student’s family while coordinating with authorities. Students who witnessed or were in the vicinity of the incident were also debriefed and provided counseling and support.

The university has likewise urged the public to respect the family’s privacy and maintain a compassionate environment as the DLSU community mourns the loss. (By the Staff)
