Brownlee, Thompson conspire late to lift Ginebra over Rain or Shine


Justin Brownlee and Scottie Thompson conspire for key late-game plays as Barangay Ginebra topped Rain or Shine, 98-89, on Saturday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Brownlee scored 39 points while Thompson finished with 11 points, 7 in the fourth quarter including a huge three-pointer with 1:33 left in the game to seal Ginebras third straight win.

The duo pumped 9-0 finish after an 89-89 tie for the Gin Kings, who had to claw back from an 8-point deficit late in the third period to improve their record to 4-2.

Ginebra climbed to a share of 4th place with Meralco in the team standings, while Rain or Shine fell to 2-6.

LA Tenorio added 11 markers for the Gin Kings.

Rain or Shine, with the defeat, joined a four-team logjam together with Alaska, Phoenix Pulse, and Blackwater for ninth and last place in the team standings.

Kwame Alexander led the Elasto Painters in scoring with 20 points.
