Bust agad? Wembanyama gets criticized in Summer League debut

Victor Wembanyama got a taste of NBA competition, and it was not a pleasant welcome for the top rookie.

After a member of his security was
involved in an issue with Britney Spears, the French big man suited up for the San Antonio Spurs for the first time in the NBA Summer League against the Charlotte Hornets.

Wembanyama faced Brandon Miller, the second overall pick in their draft class.

In his first game as a Spur, Wembanyama only registered nine points on a measly 2-of-13 shooting, along with eight rebounds and five blocks.

The 7-foot-3 center attempted seven three-pointers but only converted one.

Fans can’t help but compare him to Miller, who had a decent outing with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.

Here are some tweets from people who are not sold on Wembanyama’s debut in San Antonio:

In the post-match conference, Wembanyama acknowledged that he’s still in the process of learning the ropes in an NBA environment.

“Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court tonight, but I’m trying to learn for the next games,” said Wembanyama. (Mark Patriarca)
