Bwisit kay Kawhi? Clippers players irritated at Kawhi Leonard’s ‘special treatment’
Recent reports from Jovan Buha and Joe Vardon of The Athletic revealed that some Clippers players like Pat Beverley, Lou Williams, and Montrezl Harrell were turned off with the fact that their superstar teammate Kawhi Leonard was given a special treatment from the management.
“Players like Beverley, Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams — Clippers bedrocks before the arrival of Leonard and George — bristled when Leonard was permitted to take games off to manage his body and to live in San Diego, which often led to him being late for team flights,” the report stated.
“The team also allowed Leonard to dictate to Rivers when he could be pulled from games, among other things. Lue was on Rivers’ bench for all of this, but the Clippers were Rivers’ show.”
The Clippers were among the heavy favorites to win the Finals last season, but they would blow a 3-1 lead against the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs.
Good thing is that the Clips were able to secure Ty Lue’s services as the head coach, and he is expected to do his job in game-adjustments and managing players’ egos, which is no stranger to the one-time NBA champion coach.
