Cabagnot’s return, Fajardo’s 20-20 game propel Beermen over Elite
By Miles Morales
Alex Cabagnot defied his doctor’s advice and instead suited up into action for San Miguel on Wednesday night.
Cabagnot, coming off a 4-game layoff, was very helpful for the Beermen scoring 19 points as San Miguel arrested its two-game slide with a 93-79 win over Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Cabagnot also issued 5 assists in just 24 minutes of action.
Christian Standhardinger took his turn to rest an injury, but June Mar Fajardo was more than enough to dominate Blackwater’s frontline as the Beermen notched the morale-boosting win ahead of their crucial match versus the Magnolia Hotshots onSunday.
Fajardo scattered 20 points and hauled down 21 rebounds.
Terrence Romeo, meanwhile, chipped in 17 points at what easily be his best performance in a San Miguel uniform.
Chris Ross was a fourth SMB player to score in double figures with 14.
The Beermen improved to 3-3 while dropping the Elite down to 1-4.
The Beermen actually got to stamp their class on the Elite only in the second half.
From a slim 44-41 lead, the Beermen unleashed a series of runs to break the game wide open at 87-66.
