Caidic shows off legendary touch to carry SMB greats over Alaska
By Miles Morales
Allan Caidic showed off his legendary touch from deep in the crunch to lead a key surge that lift San Miguel Greats over the Alaska legends, 96-83, on Sunday in the ‘Return of the Rivals’ game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Caidic, more popularly known as the Triggerman, knocked down a couple of three-pointers in a fourth-quarter run that enabled the Beermen to pull away for good in the benefit game.
Caidic finished with 26 points on 7-of-18 shooting, including 6-of-14 from threes, to earn Player of the Game honors.
Denok Miranda added 17 points while Danny Ildefonso contributed a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Beermen, who trailed at halftime, 40-32, but outscored the Milkmen, 64-43, in the second half.
San Miguel Beer won P100,000 for winning the game, while Caidic took home P25,000 for the Best Player award.
But another two-time league MVP Willie Miller, who finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds, also showed up when needed and carried Alaska just like old times.
The Thriller’s three-pointer at the 6:06-mark sent the match into a 78-all deadlock.
However, Caidic and San Miguel responded by pulling off a 13-1 scoring blitz to propel themselves to a 12-point lead with 2:04 on the clock.
Kenneth Duremdes and Johnny Abarrientos scored back-to-back hits to trim the deficit to just eight, 83-91, but Olsen Racela’s jumper and Danny Ildefonso’s triple shut the door close for Alaska.
