Throughout his PBA career, Ginebra fans have consistently booed Calvin Abueva, unaware that “The Beast” actually desires to play for the league’s most popular team.
“Noong kabataan mo, anong PBA team ang gusto mo mapuntahan?” ex-pro player Rico Maierhofer asked Abueva in a vlog of the PBA Motoclub.
“Ginebra,” Abueva answered. “Lahat ng mga kabataan ngayon mula dati pa, ang nakilala Ginebra.”
Maierhofer then asked Abueva if he wanted to play for Ginebra if given a chance.
“Oo…siguro ‘yung natitira kong career sa paglalaro doon ibubuhos natin 610 percent,” Abueva added.
The second overall pick of the 2012 draft also shared that his favorite player growing up was Robert Jaworski, one of the legends of the Ginebra franchise.
The 35-year-old Pampanga native spent seven years with the now-defunct Alaska team, where he won his only PBA title. He was traded to Phoenix and played for the Fuel Masters from 2018 to 2020. After that, he was shipped to Magnolia in 2021.
With the SMC group handling both Magnolia and Ginebra, there is still a possibility that Abueva might play for Ginebra. (MJD)
