Canino: La Salle seniors still undecided after UAAP title run

Angel Canino and the DLSU Lady Spikers celebrate their UAAP Season 88 championship at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

De La Salle University star Angel Canino said the Lady Spikers’ seniors have yet to decide on their future following the team’s championship victory in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

After La Salle completed a dominant 16-0 campaign and captured its 13th women’s volleyball title, many fans noticed that no senior player stepped into the middle during the team’s traditional “Archers’ Stance” celebration — a gesture usually reserved for graduating players bidding farewell.

Canino later explained that the team’s seniors remain undecided on whether they will return for another season.

“Kaming lahat undecided pa talaga that’s why walang pumunta sa gitna,” said Canino during the postgame press conference.

“Bilin din talaga ni Coach Ramil na walang pupunta sa gitna kasi wala pa po talagang gagraduate but of course, speaking with the fifth year, kaming lahat undecided pa naman,” she added.

Canino, Shevana Laput, Amie Provido, and Lyka De Leon all played crucial roles as the Lady Spikers swept National University, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16, to seal the championship.

With no senior officially announcing their departure, the Lady Spikers could retain the core of its championship roster as it eyes a possible title defense next season. (AC)
