Cardinals’ balanced scoring gives Mapua 2nd win


The Mapua Cardinals scalped the Arellano Chiefs, 91-83 to post their second win in four games in the men’s basketball tournament in season 94 of the NCAA at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Laurenz Victoria, the team’s scoring leader, decided to play facilitator and handed out a career-high nine assists on top of nine points and four rebounds as the Cardinals forged a three-way logjam at fifth spot with the Blazers and the Chiefs on 2-2 cards.

The 21-year-old Victoria, a native of Makati who averaged 13 points entering the game, allowed his teammates to shine including Chris Bunag and rookie Eric Jabel, who fired 18 and 15 points, respectively.

Three other players contributed in double figures as Cedric Pelayo, Noah Lugo and Warren Bonifacio also finished with 13, 12 and 12, respectively.
