Ceres Negros FC bow to FC Istiklol
Ceres Negros FC’s amazing run in the 2017 AFC Cup came to an end last night after drawing 1-1 (1-5 in aggregate) against FC Istikol of Tajiskitan in the second leg of their inter zone semifinals at the Pana-ad Stadium in Bacolod City.
Manuel “Super” Hererra opened the scoring for the host after heading the ball off a Manny Ott corner in the 34th minute.
The visitors, however, leveled the match in stoppage time in the first half with a well-placed strike by Dimitri Barkov.
Despite gallant efforts of the Busmen, the team failed to overhaul the big four goal lead by Istiklol it earned during the first leg in Dushanbe.
While its improbable run ended against the Tajiks, Ceres can still be proud of what it achieved in the AFC Cup. It is the first Pinoy club to win the ASEAN zone after dispatching Home United of Singapore in the finals.
