Ceres Negros held by Hanoi in the ASEAN semifinal first leg

Reigning PFL champions Ceres-Negros left Panaad almost red-faced after being held to a 1-1 draw by a resolute Hanoi in the opener of the ASEAN Zone semifinal of the AFC Cup 2019 at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Bienvenido Maranon’s 57th minute header was cancelled out by Papa Omar Faye 10 minutes later as the Vietnamese league champions take a vital away goal to Hang Day next week.
Ceres could not break the wall set by Chu Dinh Nghiem, while the backline of Risto Vidakovic was constantly breached by the enterprising play of the visitors as the horror of the shock win by Becamex was still fresh from the Busmen’s minds more than a month ago.
The Serbian known his frustrations loud and clear on the officiating by Yaqoob Abdul Baki, but the numbers revealed that the Omani referee had split 26 fouls evenly between the two sides, including two bookings each.
After a boring first half, Ceres came to life as Maranon put the home side ahead after was picked almost unmarked by Schrock and neatly angled his diving header past Nguyen Van Cong into the bottom right corner.
However, Hanoi broke Negrense hearts as the Busmen were caught napping at the back, with the Senegalese converted the pass by substitute Phan Than Luong and made no mistake from just six yards, making sure that Nguyen Van Quyet’s work will not be wasted despite calls for offside and hand ball.
