Chabi Yo claims UAAP MVP plum
UST Growling Tigers’ Soulemane Chabi is your UAAP Season 82’s Most Valuable Player.
Chabi Yo garnered 76 statistical points (SPs) with his game averages of 16.9 points, 14.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists and becoming the first player from UST since Dylan Ababou got the plum in 2009.
The Beninese big man came out of nowhere from Colegio de San Lorenzo when he took his talent to España and led the team in the Final Four for the first time in three years.
La Salle’s Justine Baltazar came second in the MVP race after ending up with 64 SPs on 15.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks, while fellow Green Archer Jamie Malonzo made his one-and-done season count by earning a spot in the Mythical Team with 63.23 SPs on 15.8 points, 9.9 boards, 1.6 dimes and 1.1 steals.
UP athletic forward Kobe Paras proved that he could definitely hang, garnering 62.08 SPs after averaging 17.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks, while completing the Mythical list is UE guard Rey Suerte with 60.93 SPs on his 17.6 points, 6.8 boards, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals.
Meanwhile, another Thomasian just won an individual awared when Mark Nonoy was hailed as UAAP’s Rookie of the Year.
The former UAAP Juniors MVP finished the season with 39.29 SPs after collecting 10.0 points, 3.8 boards and 2.3 dimes per game.
However, these individual awards would definitely mean a thing for UST if it will translate into playoff success.
