NXLED Chameleons bounced back from its opening-day setback in impressive fashion, sweeping PLDT High Speed Hitters, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
MarJana Phillips led the Chameleons with 13 points, highlighted by eight attacks, four service aces and one block, while Lyann De Guzman added 10 points, nine excellent digs and six excellent receptions.
The Chameleons remained without former Most Valuable Player Brooke Van Sickle but still produced a strong all-around performance to bring down the defending champions.
The Chameleons faced their biggest resistance in the third set, with the teams deadlocked at 16-all. De Guzman and Phillips then sparked a crucial 6-0 burst, scoring three points each as Nxled seized a 22-16 lead.
The High Speed Hitters tried to extend the match behind Savannah Davison, but De Guzman repeatedly answered the opponent’s attacks in the closing stretch.
Jov Fernandez put Nxled at match point, 24-19, before PLDT newcomer Leila Cruz committed an attack error that ended the contest.
The result put both teams with identical 1-1 records. Nxled will seek to build a winning streak when it faces EST Cola next, while PLDT will attempt to recover against Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City. (Adrian Co)
