Despite securing a 25-19, 25-20, and 25-18 victory over the Quezon City Gerflor Defenders on Thursday, the Chery Tiggo Crossovers acknowledged that they are still striving to reach their peak performance in the ongoing Premier Volleyball League Invitational.
According to Crossovers head coach Aaron Velez, the team is still working on their chemistry and communication, especially with the recent addition of several rookies to their lineup.
“Kailangan namin i-workout pa ‘yung chemistry namin, ‘yung communication namin para maging mas smooth ‘yung preparation for our next match,” Velez said.
“Definitely, there is still a lot to improve on. Kailangan namin maging mabilis ‘yung start namin. I think that’s one thing that we have to make up for,” he added.
Mylene Paat spearheaded the offense with 15 points, built on 10 attacks, four blocks, and a service ace, to lead the Crossovers to a 2-1 standing in Group A.
Ennajie Laure, Czarina Carandang, and Pauline Gaston each contributed seven points, while rookie Imee Hernandez chipped in six markers for the Chery Tiggo.
“Masayang masaya kami sa nilaro ng lahat ng players, and I like the fact that everybody (in the lineup) was able to step inside the court,” Velez said.
Alyssa Bertolano paced the Defenders with 15 points on 12 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, along with 12 excellent receptions and seven excellent digs, as Gerflor dropped to 0-2 in the standings. (AC)
