Chot: Kailangan ng isang barangay para mapigilan si Karl Anthony-Towns

How do you shackle a big, talented man like Karl Anthony-Towns?

Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes said it will take “a village.”

“I don’t think it’s physically possible for any single person on our team and perhaps the entire World Cup to stop Karl-Anthony Towns one-on-one,” said the Gilas Pilipinas coach ahead of their game against the Dominican Republic.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star will be the Dominican Republic’s focal point on offense against the Filipinos on Friday, and the task of defending him will fall on the Filipino frontline, said Reyes.

“It’s going to take a village to stop him and the Dominicans. It’s not a one-man team that we’re playing tomorrow. But the initial job is going to fall on the frontlines.”

This means the tallest of the Gilas, like June Mar Fajardo, Kai Sotto, Japeth Aguilar, and AJ Edu, will need to shackle “KAT” and the rest of the Dominicans.

Aguilar said they only know on Friday if their defensive strategy works against Anthony-Towns.

“We will find out when the game starts. We’ll never know until the game starts,” he said.
