Gilas Pilipinas may have lost to Montenegro 102-87 during their tuneup on Sunday, but coach Chot Reyes has seen something good in their squad.
Reyes said he was impressed with how they managed to match the bigger Montenegro squad, even with their NBA star Nikola Vucevic.
“I was surprised na dumikit tayo nang ganon,” he said.
“Ang lakas nang team na kinalaban natin.”
The Black Mountains, ranked No. 18 in the world, were only able to break away in the third quarter, where they outscored Gilas by 32 points.
Prior to their loss, the nationals dismantled Ivory Coast, 85-62. They will next take on Mexico in their final scrimmage on Monday.
The nationals are using the tuneups as their final preparation for the FIBA World Cup.
