The Cignal HD Spikers put an end to the Choco Mucho Flying Titans’ desire to reach the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League Invitational with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-21 victory on Tuesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Jovelyn Gonzaga led the way with 13 points, including 10 on attacks, while Rachel Anne Daquis snapped a two-game struggle with a 12-point performance as the HD Spikers became the second team from Pool B to reach the semis aside from the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
Frances Xinia Molina added 10 markers, the same output put in by Roselyn Doria, who spiked her impressive stint with three kill blocks, while Riri Meneses and Angel Cayuna wound up with six and five points, respectively.
“Sobrang blessed and happy. Kasi kung paano namin inaral, pano kami nag-prepare, ‘yung adjustments, lumabas lahat. Pero nag-struggle din kami sa training,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos. “Ang wish ko na lang ay mai-apply namin lahat ito sa game.”
“Nanaig ‘yung tiwala sa players. May leader(s) ka to take control of the team,” added delos Santos, referring to his veteran players Daquis, Gonzaga, and Molina.
Cherry Rondina did topscore for the Flying Titans for the fifth straight time, but her 14-point production fell way short of her norm as her squad was relegated to the consolation round with the loss.
